Architecture

I found this article interesting because I architecture can play an important role in ones culture.   The style of your building can tell a lot about the person living inside.  During the Italian Renaissance there were two different political parties that often turned to using violence against each other.  They could tell who lived where by the brick pattern and the towers on their homes.  It makes sense to see this battle of architecture occur in Jerusalem especially since many Palestinians are afraid of losing their own culture.  This article does make me wonder what would happen if the situation was reversed?  What would the architecture look like if people of Israel were kick out of the homes and the Palestinians were able to return back to their homes?  It is a small detail, but I think that architecture and the changes in architecture do tell a lot about the feelings of the people living in them.
Three Questions:
1:  Have you received any backlash or cooperation from the Israeli side?
2:  Are you actively using any websites like facebook or tweeter and how do you utilize these sources?
3:  Is there any difference in the propaganda you send through your media compared to what is taught in the schools?

  2. Have you ever strolled through Victorian Village, or any other "historical" districts of a city? Or driven through Dublin (particularly out near Emerald Parkway)?

Municipalities (and even districts within them) often have design codes: in Victorian Village, any remodeling or building has to be done in a manner that fits in with the Victorian theme. In Dublin, businesses can't put up tall signs, and have to use stone in their design so it fits in with the theme of Dublin.

What I'm driving at is that there is always some coercion in architecture--there is always something you can't do. So, we don't even have to imagine a situation where people are being kicked out of their homes; there is a violence when any powerful group forces compliance with any sort of architectural/design code--particularly when the subjugated group can't afford (or isn't allowed) to comply with the code.

  4. Joseph the issue in Jerusalem is not about the codes or remodeling. how I personally see the situation is the the Israeli municipality want to preserve the city as an ancient city but change it to look more like a Jewish ancient city by removing its connections to the Islamic and Arabian history. In many cases, Arabic scripts and architecture were removed and replaced by the stare of David or some other Jewish symbols. The facts coming from the city prove that the occupation has been adopting since the occupation of the city an ethnic cleansing policy to remove the Arabs from it by different methods and converting the culture and architecture to make it seem like a Jewish city (and only Jewish city).
